Kernels of Hope update ... Beate ... SHARED MEAL

We had a great service on Sunday. We raised $1157 for our KERNELS OF HOPE project. I’ll keep you updated throughout the farming season and let you know how the crop is growing and finally I’ll let you know what our harvested crop was worth and how much money our project raised for the people of Liberia.

This coming Sunday (June 4) Beate will take a few minutes and give us a glimpse of her trip to New York and share with us the kind of things that God is doing in her life. Come and hear what she’s got to say.

Our next SHARED MEAL is Sunday, June 11. Bring some food to share with everyone. Plan to stick around after the service and just chat with folks.

Kernels of Hope Sunday ... May 28

Grow a little grain.
Make a HUGE difference.

Here’s how it works. Three farmers in Canada have donated part of their crop to help fight world hunger. People in the twenty-two Covenant Churches across Canada sponsor the cost to grow an acre of crop. When that crop is harvested the crop is donated through the Evangelical Covenant in Canada and World Relief Canada to the Canadian Food Grains Bank. Then it gets exciting … money earned is matched 4 to 1 by CIDA (Canadian International Development Fund). We have the opportunity to raise a huge amount of money.

Last year 55 acres of hard red spring wheat at 62 bushels per acre were donated. The result: $70,000 went to help desperately poor people in Liberia. You read that right … $70,000! This year we will sponsor around 120 acres. I believe we will raise well over $100,000 this year.

Maybe you’ve thought that you can’t make a difference in world hunger. Maybe you’ve thought that the problem just seems too large. It is large … but you can make a difference. In the last decade 30 countries around the world reduced hunger related deaths by 25% (United Nations Statistics Division).

What you do makes a difference. Come and make a difference. Sunday, May 28 is Kernels of Hope Sunday. An offering will be taken and the money will be used to sponsor acres of crop that will send huge amounts of money and hope to Liberia. Your participation will save lives. Please come. If you can’t come but would like to take part in our Kernels of Hope program, please call.
