Just Pancakes Sunday

Sunday, May 6
9am to 11am
Dundurn Community Hall

Two Important Notes:

1. It’s FREE. All the pancakes, sausage and coffee you want … FREE.

2. We’re doing this to expose people to our Kernels of Hope program. Last year we raised $192,000 to fight hunger in Liberia. It works like this: You sponsor an acre of crop on one of four fields around Canada. When the crop is harvested it is donated to Canadian Food Grains Bank and the money from the sale of that crop is matched 4 to1 by the Canadian International Development Agency.

So last year … we sponsored 136 acres … which turned into just over $38,000 … which when matched turned into $192,000. Incredible. … This year we have a 160 acres available to sponsor.

Come and make a difference in the fight against world hunger.

WE'RE BACK

Hey all. I'm posting again on the church blog. I'll be keeping it simple. Mostly just announcements from the Sunday bulletin and sermons. I've got about six sermons from the past couple of months that I've neglected to post, so I'll post them all in the next couple of days. You can also go to the podcasting service and see a list of all the sermons I've posted. Every now and then I'll post some other thoughts as well. Let me know what you think.

Here's the sermon from last Sunday:

Blackstrap Education Sunday

11am, Sunday, October 22th, 2006
Dundurn Community Hall

Join us this Sunday. All of the money collected in the offering this Sunday will be used to create a bursary for a graduating senior from Hanley High School. Last year we raised $1240 to help two students with their post-secondary education. It’s a good start but I would like to establish a larger bursary this year. In order to raise more money we need your help. Join us this Sunday or call me and let me know that you would like to be a part of creating this bursary.

Any student graduating from Hanley High School and planning to attend post-secondary education has a chance at receiving this bursary; they need not attend Blackstrap Covenant Church or any church. The criteria for the bursary are academic seriousness and a giving and helpful attitude. I spent ten years of my life paying back my student loans for my university education. That was too long. Let’s help a couple of our local students with their education.

Maybe you go to church, maybe you don’t. Either way, come and be a part of something important in our community. Come and stand with us as we seek to support our students as they strive to develop their minds through higher education.

The Real Mary

One of my favorite authors has written a book about Mary, and it looks good. Here is the first and second chapter of the book. The book is not due out for a couple of months yet, so you'll have to wait for the rest of it. I've asked for an advanced copy and if I get one we may have a get together one night to talk about Mary and to look at the book. Ohh ... who's the writer? ... Scot McKnight. Here is a link to find more information about the book ... LINK
